Follow steps below to request admission to the Food Science and Human Nutrition PHD program.

*This is a new process as of May 2024. This process replaces the paper FSHN petition outlined in the handbook.

First obtain a letter of support from your advisor and create an estimated timeline that includes when you will complete the Qual, Prelim, and Defense. The letter from the advisor must specify space and financial support.

Fill out the Graduate College petition requesting a Curriculum Change

  • Sign into the Grad College Student Portal: https://grad.illinois.edu/academic-support
  • Choose Grad Student Petition
  • Request Type: choose Curriculum Change
  • Are you on upcoming degree list: This question is asking if you have put yourself on the pending degree list to graduate that term.
  • Explanation: I was admitted to the FSHN MS program with a concentration in (Insert Concentration).  I am applying to the FSHN PhD program with a concentration in (Insert Concentration).  Please transfer all of my MS credits to the PhD curriculum.
  • Supporting Documentation uploaded to petition:
    • Timeline that includes estimates of when you will complete the Qual, Prelim and Defense.
    • Advisor support letter (it is okay if advisor wants to send letter directly to me. I will upload it to your petition)
