The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition offers undergraduate degree programs focused on dietetics, food science, hospitality management and human nutrition. Accomplished world-class researchers instruct students in challenging, hands-on learning environment. Studying in these areas will lead students to careers impacting the safety, affordability, associated pleasure and nutrition of the world’s food supply, while enhancing human health.

Career opportunities are vast across the Department, allowing students to pursue positions that are a good fit for them. Students often entertain multiple job opportunities.

The Chronicle of Higher Education recently ranked the University of Illinois food science program as one of the top five in the nation.

The Gourman Report, a rating of undergraduate programs in American and international universities, consistently ranks the University of Illinois Hospitality Management program as one of the top programs in the nation.

Approximately 94 percent of University of Illinois dietetics students pass the registered dietitian exam on the first attempt, while the national average is approximately 80 percent.

Human Nutrition alumni have found success in allied health careers including dentistry, nursing, medicine, and veterinary medicine.
