Intercollege Transfer Students

The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition offers five undergraduate concentrations: Food Science, Food Industry and Business, Human Nutrition, Dietetics, and Hospitality Management.Transferring into a particular concentration depends on your academic history, following the transfer requirements for the specific concentration, and space availability. In order to request transfer into one of our concentrations, students must complete an application that is available in 258 Bevier Hall throughout the year.

Applications will be reviewed by the Food Science and Human Nutrition advising coordinators. The student’s academic history and professional interest statement will be considered. The minimum GPA requirement to be considered for acceptance is 2.5/4.0 for Food Science, Food Industry and Business, and Hospitality Management and 3.0/4.0 for Dietetics and Human Nutrition. Students who have successfully completed college calculus and CHEM 102/103 will be given preference. For the Hospitality Management concentration, students with junior status must show evidence of at least 320 hours of practical experience in foodservice (this is a requirement for HM student to complete prior to their junior year). For the Human Nutrition and Dietetics concentrations, particular attention will be given to grades received in science and math courses that the student has completed prior to the transfer request. Potential Dietetics students should be aware that a GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher is needed to be accepted into the highly competitive post-baccalaureate dietetics internships.

Those students admitted to the desired concentration will be assigned to an advisor prior to the registration period. It is the student’s responsibility to meet with their advisor and plan their program of study. Students are admitted to the program with the understanding that all courses must be taken in their proper sequence and that no prerequisites will be waived. In addition, transfer students may not be able to complete the concentration without staying an additional semester or year, depending on their background.
