Clubs and Activities

Clubs

Student clubs and professional organizations are a valuable opportunity to learn, gain practical experience, and make contacts in the field. Students can participate in any of the departmental clubs, including the Association of Food Technologists, Hospitality Management Association, and Student Dietetic Association. The Association of Food Technologists calendar is available here.

Students in FSHN 517 (Fermented and Distilled Beverages) also participate in BUZZ, a Brewing Club. It is open to all people, but you have to be 21 years of age to actively participate!

Competitions

For those with a competitive spirit, the Institute of Food Technologists Product Development Competition (contact Dr. M.Susan Brewer) and the College Bowl Competition in the College Bowl (contact Dr. W.E.Artz) are excellent opportunities. Students can use their creativity to design new food products, or test their knowledge of food science and nutrition and compete with teams from other universities.
