Biographical Sketch

Bradley Beam began his career studying horticulture at the University of Illinois, earning a BS in 1998. He assisted research in small fruit breeding and cultural trials at Oregon State University in 1997 and 1998, only to return to Illinois in 1999 to study viticulture at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. His research included the delay of bud break for spring frost avoidance in hybrid wine grape cultivars. Beam then joined the University of Minnesota grape breeding program in 2001, providing processing and research support to the project, and extension support to the Minnesota wine inudstry. He received the Award for Outstanding Performance from the College of Agricultural, Food, and Environmental Sciences (COAFES) in 2005/2006. Beam joined the University of Illinois in fall 2006, and his current goals include assisting with the improvement of wine quality throughout Illinois by providing extension support via workshops and site visits, opening an analysis lab for commercial wineries, and conducting research within the field of hybrid wine production.
