Heather Mangian, a Ph.D. student and Senior Research Specialist working with Dr. Kelly Tappenden, received the Vars Award and Promising Investigator Award at the Clinical Nutrition Week meeting in early February.
The Vars Award Committee selected Mangian as the best research presentation at Clinical Nutrition Week. Mangian's presentation was titled, "Butyrate increases GLUT2 mRNA abundance in Caco2-BBe cells."
The annual Harry M. Vars Award serves as a tribute to Dr. Vars and his pioneering developments in total parental nutrition. Mangian received a $1,000 cash prize, a travel grant and a plaque during the Research Awards Ceremony at Clinical Nutrition Week, where she presented her paper. Mangian's paper will be published in the Journal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (JPEN).
