Dietetic Internship Supervised Practice Sites

The University of Illinois Dietetic Internship Program has established relationships with a number of local health providers, community programs, and foodservice facilities in order to provide our interns with a rich and diverse supervised practice experience.

Danville VA Medical Center

  • 6 weeks clinical, 6 weeks administrative
  • 422 beds, including 193 long-term care beds
  • Cook-Chill foodservice
  • Multi-disciplinary healthcare
  • Electronic charting
  • Geriatric medicine, obesity, DM, renal failure, CVD, substance abuse, nutrition support, liver disease, cancer

Carle Foundation Hospital

  • 2 weeks general clinical
  • 2 weeks nutrition support
  • Acute care facility (295 beds)
  • Trauma, CVD, post-surgical nutrition, cancer, diabetes, acute renal failure, pediatric nutrition

Carle Clinic Association

  • 2 weeks outpatient counseling
  • Type I and Type II diabetes, gestational diabetes, weight management, CVD

McKinley Health Center

  • 1 week outpatient counseling
  • 1 week preparatory research inservice presentation
  • Weight management, sports nutrition, irritable bowel syndrome, polycystic ovarian syndrome, vegetarianism

University of Illinois Foodservice

  • 2 weeks foodservice management in Bevier Cafe
  • Cost analysis, product development, nutrition promotion, marketing, inventory, purchasing

EFNEP/WIC

  • 2 weeks
  • Development of educational materials, nutrition counseling,outreach and extension education

C-U Dialysis Center

  • 1 weeks clinical/outpatient counseling
  • Acute/chronic renal failure, renal diet, weight management, diabetes, labs assessment

Swann Special Care Center

  • 1 week
  • Home for children who are severely and profoundly multiply handicapped
  • 112 beds
  • Nutrition support, pediatric nutrition assessment, special needs fodservice

Elective Rotation

  • 1 week
  • Relates to student interests
  • May be performed anywhere
  • Possible elective topics: clinical staff relief, nutrition consulting, public policy, etc.
