The space and location of the pilot plant are modern and well cared for. However, much of the equipment needs to be updated. Contributions of equipment and funds to repair and replace the equipment are essential to the teaching and research of the University of Illinois.

The endowments will be linked with specific areas or courses to ensure that educational goals are attainable.
The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition seeks to establish multiple Faculty Chair and Professorship endowments. These endowments will provide funding in support of the salaries and research programs of these exceptional faculty members, enhancing the teaching and research missions for perpetuity. The endowments would be linked to specific academic areas. There are specific needs in the areas of Hospitality Management, Food Engineering/ Processing, and Food Safety Microbiology.
